Helen teaches creative art classes to Canyon Ranch guests in Tucson—from drawing and Monoprint making, to painting (acrylic, watercolor, and Asian Brush). Her goal is not only to teach artistic methods and exercises, but to inspire resort guests to explore and experience the calming effects of art-based creative practices.
Helen is a retired lawyer who has embraced her love for fine arts and landscape architecture. For six years she was an Adjunct Professor in Graduate Studies in Landscape Architecture at the University of Arizona. She is also an instructor of painting and drawing for adult education classes and writes a blog about the power of creativity.
When teaching, Helen’s goal is to make art accessible and easy to try — especially for those who are afraid they won’t do it well. She says the best feeling is when guests realize “I can do this!” She strives for all guests to leave class energized by their new creative skills and inspired to explore and enjoy making art in their everyday lives, and as part of their self-care routine.
In her downtime, Helen enjoys hiking, travelling, and of course, her own art projects. When asked for words of wisdom, she likes to keep it simple. “Remember, life is precious. Make the most of each day.”
